Most new technologies start out rather small, then grow to epic proportions. It could be said that 3D TV is currently in its toddler stages, trying to find its legs. What was once a popular ‘gimmick’ only available in the movie theaters, can now be enjoyed in the privacy of our own homes. Someday, we will look back at the clumsy beginnings of 3D TV and laugh, while changing channels on our holographic screens with just a thought, right? Until then, we must learn the ropes of each new technological advancement as it is made available to us, and either jump in with both feet, or wave the knowledge on as we lag behind.
At the time of this post, any 2D or HD program will transmit beautifully on a 3D TV, without the need for the special 3D glasses. Improvements are constantly being made to the glasses to offer a more affordable, less cumbersome companion to the 3D TV. Perhaps the next advancements will be the elimination of the glasses altogether, creating an uninhibited 3D experience for all. For now, as the awareness of 3D TV grows, as it becomes more affordable and new movie titles are offered in 3D, we can just sit back and enjoy the ride.
